1E16769 was bought for me by my contact person in Los Angeles from (Jo) Huffacker Engineering, the company who race-prepared the famous E type from the also famous Merle Brennan in the sixties. 1E16769 had undergone several race-car modifications, mainly to the front bulkhead/firewall. Any actual race history of the car is unknown to me. The car was sold by them with the engine newly overhauld and the hard-top.

Hi Peter,
you posted in 2004 some facts about your E-Type. The interesting thing for me was the fact, that your engine number is exact the one which originally was the engine of my E-Type.
As I am interested in the history of my E-Type, and how my engine came to your car, I ask you to contact me.
Kind regards

Additional history. My car, 888960 came with a file of documents from previous owners and one paper mentioned 1E16769. It turns out that a John Saguto from Petaluma CA owner this car as well as mine in the mid 90's. This document mentions a trade to Huffaker racing for some serviced to 888960. "...Mr Huffaker will receive one 1968 Jaguar convertible (vin# 1E16769) for products and services described below." It goes on to mention a complete exhaust repair, some floor work, brake system rebuild, rebuild and tune carbs, body work and paint ($6000 job), and some additional assembly. "Upon completion of the service stated above, Mr Saguto will sign over the 1968 Jaguar convertible (vin# 1E16769) in an 'as-is' state, including all parts. Mr Huffaker is fully aware of the condition of said vehicle and agrees vehicle is known as an extensive rebuilding project with some parts missing, (ie wheels, radiator, seats, interior, windshield, etc)." Other than owning the car, I don't have any more info before or after this document from 1996. All the services were to be completed by Jan 12, 1997 on 888960.

is now for sale from "Cool Classic Club"

www.coolclassicclub.de/de/fahrzeuge/autos/cabrio-roadster/vehicle/2115654/jaguar ...

Description:

This particular example is an early 1.5 series, recognizable by its classic features such as the open headlights, three SU carburettors, and the original dashboard with the characteristic Series 1 switches. Furthermore, the elegant Series 1 bumpers have been retained, further enhancing its authentic appearance. The car was built in late 1967 and launched in 1968.

In 2000, this Jaguar arrived in the Netherlands from the USA, imported by a passionate Dutch restorer. The American owner intended to use the car for racing at the time, but the restorer recognized its potential to restore it to top condition. Although the car was already in excellent condition, he forwent racing and instead optimized the engine. Thanks to improvements such as a higher compression ratio, improved cooling, and a modern water pump, the engine underwent a comprehensive overhaul in 2011. The asbestos roofs were removed and the mechanical aspects were completely improved.

Since then, the Jaguar has remained in the hands of the same enthusiast. Originally purchased in completely original condition with exceptionally low mileage, the car became a virtual "zero-mileage car" after a comprehensive full restoration in 2011.

Every detail was meticulously refined, from the engine overhaul to the interior, resulting in an exceptionally sophisticated E-Type. This restoration, which lasted until 2024, restored the car to a condition that surpasses its original glory.

The Jaguar was fitted with high-quality components by an interior specialist and finished with a luxurious leather interior. For a harmonious look, the exclusive Golden Sand color from the Jaguar palette was even applied to the original hardtop. The whitewall tires complete the car.
