Offered here is a 1963 example of the Series 1 3.8 fixed head coupe, which has benefited from full restoration in the early 1990's, with a photographic record. In 1997 the 3.8 engine was fully rebuilt by the highly respected VSE, when the damaged block was replaced by a 3.8 MKII block. Ignition is via 123 Electronic distributor and the dynamo has been replaced with an alternator disguised as a dynamo and the car is now negative earth and is equipped with a spin-off oil filter. The brakes are uprated using Series II vented discs and Coopercraft 4 pot calipers.
Finished in Carmen red with black leather interior, the car has had just two previous owners and has been in the vendors ownership since 2004. It is described as being in excellent condition having been lovingly maintained.

This 'Series 1' E-Type coupé was fully restored in the early 1990s and comes with the relevant bills and a photographic record of the work carried out. In 1997 the engine was fully rebuilt by recognised specialists VSE, the original damaged cylinder block being replaced with one from a 3.8-litre Jaguar Mark 2 saloon. The electrics have been converted to negative earth and further up-rated with a dynamo-style alternator, while ignition is via a 123 electronic distributor. Further upgrades include a spin-on oil filter, alloy radiator, heat-wrapped stainless steel exhaust system, Series 2 vented disc brakes, and Coopercraft four-pot callipers. In total, some £73,000 has been spent on the car. Finished in Carmen Red with black leather interior, and looking as clean underneath as it does on top, this beautiful E-Type coupé comes with MoT to August 2016 and V5C registration document.

Original date of registration was 06-02-1964 and it is still in its' original colour of red with black leather interior. Please visit:- jaguaretypeseries1.shutterfly.com/ for further photographs. It has had some very sensible upgrades of Dynamo converted to alternator in the same casing £500, alloy radiator £550, vented front discs with Zeus calliper conversion £822, 123 ignition system £220, stainless steel exhaust £545,......back in the history, 24-10-1997, it shows the engine suffered a cracked block, which was deemed an uneconomical repair, and an invoice clearly states that engine block number LB2669 was fitted at a cost of over £2,000 including all the associated ancillary work. At the same time the cylinder head was completely stripped and professionally rebuilt with new valves and springs. The chrome wire wheels were fitted in August 1992, nearly £800 and still look like new, as well as these items the car underwent a thorough overhaul at XK Engineering earlier in 1992 that has an invoice total of nearly £9,000, (24 years ago). As for the paint and bodywork, that was done in 1989 and still looks beautiful today, bearing in mind that is 27 years ago.....and the cost then was £4,200....27 years ago, with an hourly labour rate of £10 per hour. There is a letter from XK Engineering showing a recorded mileage after restoration, of 34 miles, dated 12-08-1992. Photographic evidence of the bare metal re-spray along with other extensive invoices for general service and maintenance are all compiled in a huge history file. The car drives and looks beautiful with its' aluminium dash and original 4 speed moss gearbox, which also handles superb, but quick modern day gear change has never been an option with this gearbox.
My wife asks, "how do you price this car, when there are such huge price differences?" I am a private individual who has seen and driven many E-Type Jaguars from £40,000 to £250,000, I believe this to be well priced, you will only agree or disagree when you see and drive the car.
I have owned 2 previous E-Types and own 2 at the moment. The only reason for me selling one is that I require extra capital for a garage/barn, which I am building for my cars. I am 59, and back in the 1960's my Father owned Jaguars. What we need to remember is that in past decades right up to the 1960's it was not unusual for cars to have engines, gearboxes and rear differentials replaced. Magazines in the early 1970's described E-Types as rot boxes, reflecting the standard of engineering and build quality at that time. That is why so many sold for a few hundred pounds, in those days. So many cars that I have seen have had false numbers stamped into engine blocks and chassis plates. It is best to know the honest truth about a car. There are so many Left Hand Drive cars converted to Right Hand Drive, or Fixed Head Coupes that have been converted to Convertibles. My other E-Type is a 1969 4.2 Fixed Head Coupe that is a converted Left Hand Drive car, but I have all the history and it is an excellent car, like this one.
This car (the Red 1964 E-Type) had a hairline crack in the cylinder block, so it was more efficient to change it. XK Engineering are probably the most respected people for Jaguar work, doing things to a higher degree than when they were first manufactured. I originally had the car advertised at £120,000 and to be honest, if it was being advertised by E-Type U.K., Kent or New Forest Classic Cars, Lymington it would certainly be priced between £160,000 and £180,000. The car is a genuine Right Hand Drive British car, manual with chrome wire wheels and only needs to be seen and driven. Do Google search "New Forest Classic Cars, Lymington" you will see what I mean. The nearest railway station is Lincoln, about 35 minutes away. I can collect at a time convenient if this is required. It is in a dehumidified garage and I would only wish to take it out for a test drive in suitable weather conditions, as to clean the chrome wire wheels properly and keep them in the condition they are in takes hours. With regards payment, I am in no immediate rush, so if time was needed to arrange your finances, that would be fine. Obviously the car would need to be paid in full before release. My wife and I have had numerous Classic Cars for many years.
In the engine picture the exhaust manifolds are covered because the engine is notorious for giving off excessive heat, which always transmitted into the passenger compartment. Ask anyone who has an E-Type of there driving experience in Summer! Even with the fan supposedly blowing cold air, it would inevitably be very hot in the interior. Having the exhaust manifolds wrapped means it is far more pleasurable to drive in fine weather. Just basically reduces heat given off by the engine, the exhaust manifolds being the hottest part. I am cautious in giving out the engine and chassis numbers as I have had clone adverts of my vehicles put out by third parties, on more than one occasion. I know Emails should be secure, but I have had some unfortunate breaches in the past. A bit like giving away too much in the way of bank details. I have nothing to hide there, I just wish to keep that information for as and when people actually come to see the car. My other E-Type is a 1967 British Racing Green FHC, 5 speed manual with chrome wire wheels and is also advertised selling for £59,995, again full detailed history with a CD disc of the restoration. When I went to see the car I was unaware that it was a converted LHD. But once I drove it and saw the condition I was not leaving without it. It has been fitted with a Competition clutch by the previous owner, which does make the pedal quite hard. Parked side by side the only immediate difference is the enclosed headlights on the Series 1 car and the chrome door strips on the Series 2. Please feel free to call anytime.
