Sellers description:
I purchased this 1968 Series 1.5 E- Type from the previous owner of over 20 years. It is a very good running and driving car, which has had nearly $10,000 of very recent professional mechanical work. I’ll detail the items below. It needs some cosmetics; but is still very presentable. This car can be driven and enjoyed as is, or cosmetically restored. The original chassis number is properly stamped on the front crossmember. The mileage on the odometer is probably not correct, and should not be relied upon.
ENGINE, COOLING and DRIVETRAIN: Runs smoothly and accelerates very well with no issues apparent. Good compression on all 6 cylinders. New plugs, belt, oil and filter. Engine was professionally rebuilt under previous ownership. No overheating issues. Cooling fans operating normally.
Gearbox shifts smoothly and operates properly. Clutch operates properly. Differential exhibits no unusual noise or problems.
STEERING and SUSPENSION: Front end just rebuilt with new upper and lower ball joints and upper control arm bushings. Steering rack was rebuilt with new mounts, tie rod ends, u-joint and bellows.
BRAKES: Servo just rebuilt and sleeved by White-Post. Fluid flushed and replaced with new Castrol LMA. Reservoirs were removed and cleaned during this process. Master cylinder, calipers and rotors are in proper working order.
ELECTRICAL and INSTRUMENTS: Charging system and battery working properly. Starter, Cibie headlights, taillights, flashers and signals all work properly. Speedo and tach just rebuilt by Nisonger. All gauges, horn, wipers, heater fan in proper working order. No radio currently in car. Clock is not working.
WHEELS and TIRES : FOUR NEW Dayton 15’’ stainless spoke wheels of the proper size and style and FOUR NEW Michelin XVS tires. Older spare. No jack or toolkit. Four new knockoffs.
INTERIOR and TOP: Carpets, door panels, dash and convertible top in good condition. Seat leather is soft and pliable, and generally very good, but with a deep scuff on the top of passenger backrest which can probably be repaired.
BODY: The body was redone in the early 90’s. Paint definitely shows its age, but has great gloss. There are the usual chips and scuffs which come with use; but the car can certainly be driven as it is. The car still gets a lot of attention and compliments. Bonnet, doors and sills appear solid. Trunk floor also looks solid. There is some minor perforation in the driver’s footwell, which can easily be repaired. The other rust apparent is in the driver’s side rear wheel well area. See the picture, showing a rust spot behind the rear wheel. The passenger side is OK. Bumpers and overriders are very nice, with virtually no nicks or pitting. Most of the rest of the chrome is very good.
GENERAL: Remember, this is a 40 year old used car and is being sold as-is, with any existing faults, whether known or unknown. I have been a licensed dealer in Illinois for over 20 years. The above description is accurate, to the best of my knowledge, but should not be relied upon to take the place of an inspection. I encourage your inspection BEFORE bidding.
